Stay compliant: PVC Pink Sleeving for Functional Earth Conductors
In the world of electrical installations, proper identification and safety precautions are paramount.
rEGULATORY UPDATE!
With the latest update to BS 7671:2018+A2 (IET Wiring Regulations), there’s an important change you need to know about: functional earth conductors must now be identified using PINK PVC SLEEVING.
- The new color coding is designed to make functional earths easy to spot, therefore prevent misconnection. As a result, it improves both safety and clarity in installations.
why pink sleeving?
Primarily pink sleeving is used to ensure that functional earth conductors are never confused with protective earth conductors. Unlike protective earths (which are green-and-yellow), functional earths serve operational purposes, such as reducing electromagnetic interference or ensuring signal integrity. Consequently, pink sleeving plays a crucial role in clearly distinguishing these conductions, thereby preventing any mix-up with other conductors, such as live or neutral wires.
Where to use:
- Apply at visible connection points, such as in junction boxes, distribution boards and near terminals to clearly identify functional earth conductors.
Understanding the distinctions between functional earth and protective conductors is vital for fire detection and fire alarm system safety and functionality. For more detailed information on the differences between functional and protective conductors, check out this helpful article.
